Nay Pyi Taw was celebrating International Migrants Day 2019

The MICC (2) was held on Wednesday in Nay Pyi Taw with U Myint Swe, Vice president. International Migrants Day 2019 was celebrated.

In his speech the Vice President stated that the number of migrants from across the world exceeded 272 million in 2019, according to United Nations figures.

He stressed also the efforts Myanmar has made to improve the security for migrant workers, especially for women and children, under the Global Compact for secure, orderly and regular migration agreement together with UN Member States.

The Vice-President added, however, that migration helps to encourage the influx of foreign income into the country by money transfers to families by calling on the officials to make efforts to secure money transfers.

“Today we celebrated International Migrants Day 2019, held annually across the globe, the Minister for Employment, Immigration and Population, S.E. Thein Swe said. Myanmar also observed the day to encourage safe migration and to protect dignitaries and the rights of migrant workers from Myanmar.

In addition to supporting their families, the money sent from migrant workers helps to promote GDP growth in the region. The ministries are therefore also working closely with foreign migrant workers ‘ organisations, including by raising awareness of migration issues through the establishment of migrant resource centers in 15 towns.

On the occasion, ministers of the Union, deputy ministers, members of national and people’s parliaments, deparmental leaders, ambassadors, UN officials, CSOs, NGOs and responsible officers attended.

The International Day of Migrants on’ Migratory and Social Cohesion’ was celebrated this year.

The 55th UN General Assembly in the year 2000 declared 18 December as International Migrants Day. It’s the 8th Global Migrants Day celebrations in Myanmar.
